Igbo Author, Iromuanya Nominated For PEN/FAULKNER Award
An Igbo author, Julie Iromuanya has made this year’s list of finalists for the PEN/Faulkner Award. This years award was selected from stories of war, race and immigration. Iromuanya’s novel, entitled “Mr. and Mrs. Doctor” is about a Nigerian in the U.S. who lies about his profession to his family back home.
Others shortlisted include, James Hannaham’s book, “Delicious Foods” which is about race and class. Viet Thanh Nguyen’s novel, about a former spy for North Vietnam, “The Sympathizer”.
Two story collections also are finalists: Luis Alberto Urrea’s “The Water Museum” and Elizabeth Tallent’s “Mendocino Fire.”
The winner will be announced on April 5. Previous recipients of the award, established in 1981, include Philip Roth, Sherman Alexie and Ann Patchett. Nominees which was announced on Tuesday. Winner stands to collect a $15,000 fiction prize
