MALACCA: A man in his 30's, who was waiting for his turn to be treated, took his own life by jumping off from a hospital building here, on Tuesday afternoon.
Melaka Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Shaikh Abdul Adzis Shaikh Abdullah said the man landed on a walkway in the hospital's garden.
"Police received information on a man who fell off a building at 3.30pm.
"Upon arrival, the victim, whose identity cannot be revealed, was believed to be here at the hospital to receive treatment."
Shaikh Abdul Adzis said the victim went to the hospital with his cousin and went to the registration counter on the fourth floor to wait for their turns.
"The victim's cousin went around looking for the victim at about 2pm, and later found him lying on the walkway of the hospital's garden on the second floor."
The victim, an unemployed, was believed to be from Alor Gajah.
Shaikh Abdul Adzis said he was not married and living with his mother.
"The victim was previously working as a technician in Kedah, before moving to Malacca.
"We have yet to identify what sickness the victim had, but we are investigating the case for sudden death."
The hospital in a statement, confirmed the incident.
"We confirm we had an incident involving the death of a patient.
"As soon as we became aware of the situation, we immediately contacted the local authorities for assistance.
“We are giving full cooperation to the authorities for the investigation of this case.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and loved ones of the deceased," said the hospital's spokesman.
